Health & Safety

Steers Plastering take health and safety very seriously, we implement many safe systems of work to ensure everything is completed to no harm of any site operatives or members of the public.

As each place of work is different we work closely with the clients to ensure all our systems are adjusted to suit that situation.

H&S Qualifications

Site supervisors for Steers Plastering have completed the SSSTS course so that they can promote all of the correct health and safety protocols are followed.

All members of the workforce have the relevant CSCS cards, such as; NVQ Level 2 Solid Plastering skilled card to ensure they are competent and safe with their work. It is a minimum requirement to have a basic health and safety CSCS card therefore passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives test and completed the CITB Health, Safety and Awareness Course

RAMS

For each job that Steers Plastering do we complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements for that specific job. Everyone in the workforce have to read and understand these before they are allowed to start work.

Completing the risk assessments allow us to outlay any potential hazards that may occur during the duration of completing the works. It means we can put measures in from the beginning to help prevent any harm or injuries.

The Method Statements then provide detailed instructions on how these activities can be carried out safely.

Toolbox Talks

There are regular toolbox talks in which operatives will have to understand and sign. Such as; dust control, stair safety, waste management.

Tools/Equipment

Cut Resistant Gloves – all operatives that will be using knives to cut plasterboard will have cut resistant gloves to reduce the risk of cuts and injury to hands.

FFP3 Masks – all operatives that will be mixing powder will be face fitted for FFP3 mask wearing where appropriate.

Full Face Ventilation Mask – if face fitting is not a possibility the operatives will have a full face mask to reduce inhalation of dust.

Correct basic PPE – As a minimum all operatives will be required to wear hard hat, hi-viz vest and steel toe capped boots.

Stair Safety

We use two different types of stair safety systems to ensure that all variations of stairwells are covered.

Stairsafe Systems –

Oxford Safety Systems –

Handrails – we ensure handrails are in the correct place at all times. Should they have to be removed at any time due to loading plasterboard or when using a safety system, they will be replaced as soon as possible.

Housekeeping

Clean working area – continually throughout the day and at the end of the work day plots will be kept clean and tidy to reduce the risk of trips and falls.

Separated Waste – where possible we will ensure we separate general waste (paper/cardboard/metals) and plasterboard waste.

Dust Suppression – the use of water sprayers to limit the amount of dust in the air that could be breathed in is essential.
